INCLUSIVE AND CLIMATE-RESISTANT URBAN FOOD SYSTEMS THROUGH YOUTH MOVEMENTS BASED ON THE RIGHT TO FOOD AND NUTRITION (HAPG). URBAN FUTURES
2024 – 2027
Urban Futures (UF) is a 5-year (2023–2027) global program that integrates urban food systems, youth well-being, and climate action. Funded by the Botnar Foundation, managed by Hivos, the Humanist and Social Innovation Foundation (Humanis), the RUAF Global Partnership on Sustainable Urban Agriculture and Food Systems (RUAF-CIC), and local partners, networks, and experts. Urban Futures operates in 10 cities: Colombia (Cali and Medellin), Ecuador (Manabi and Quito), Indonesia (Bandung and West Manggarai), Zambia (Chongwe and Kitwe), and Zimbabwe (Bulawayo and Mutare). These intermediary cities vary in size but share common characteristics: they are rapidly developing, connecting metropolitan and rural areas or different groups of cities within an urban system, and managing the flow of people, goods, capital, information, and knowledge. Each of these cities presents distinct challenges and opportunities.
The KOPAJA (Food Coalition and Youth Network) consortium is one of the implementing partners of the Urban Futures program in Bandung. KOPAJA consists of three organizations: the RISE Foundation, Frontiers for Health Foundation (F2H), SEMAK Foundation, and CAI (Cahaya Inklusi Indonesia). Together, these four organizations are committed to implementing the Urban Futures program using a multi-stakeholder approach and strengthening the capacity of young people. The KOPAJA consortium’s primary objective is to “Increase meaningful youth participation in an inclusive and climate-resilient food system through the fundamental principles of the Right to Food and Nutrition as a Human Right in Bandung and West Manggarai.” This objective will be achieved through three main outcomes:
