Bogor Regency Family Education Socialization

January, 2013

January was a busy month for the Frontiers for Health (F2H) parenting team. Following up on the district-level launch/socialization, F2H, with support from UNICEF and the Directorate of Family Education Development (Bindikkel) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, began socialization at the sub-district level, as well as the recruitment of potential sub-district facilitators for the 1000 HPK Family Education Program and Children Aged 2-6.

The regional coordinators and district coordinators moved quickly within days of the program launch. Despite some delays in correspondence, Ms. Yuni, Ms. Ucu, Ms. Tita, Ms. Susi, Ms. Gina, Ms. Dewi, Ms. Nuryani, and Ms. Nina continued to approach the sub-district officials to schedule socialization activities and find 10 potential facilitators.

Outreach activities in 18 sub-districts were carried out by two F2H teams in parallel. Beginning on Friday, January 25th, amidst heavy rain, Team 1, accompanied by Ms. Tita, conducted activities in Parungpanjang District, while Team 2, accompanied by Ms. Nuryani, conducted activities in Gunung Sindur District. On Monday, January 28th, outreach continued to Sukamakmur District, led by Team 1 and Ms. Gina, and to Jonggol District, led by Team 2 and Ms. Susi. The following day, Team 1 traveled to Ciawi District with Ms. Yuni, while Team 2 traveled to Caringin District with Ms. Nina. The recruitment of potential facilitators followed the outreach activities, except in Cibungbulang and Jasinga Districts. In these two sub-districts, outreach activities were conducted by Team 1 with Ms. Dewi and Team 2 with Ms. Ucu on Wednesday, January 30th, while the recruitment of potential facilitators had taken place the previous Saturday.

Thanks especially to the district and regional coordinators, the activity went relatively smoothly, with an enthusiastic response from both the sub-districts and the prospective facilitators. Of the 175 prospective facilitators, 100 were selected to be trained in March to spearhead Family Education.
