Family Counseling Trial for Stunting Prevention in the 1000 HPK Period

Bogor, 30 Sept 2020.

After a lengthy period of “reclusion” due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the F2H Family Education team has resumed its activities with a trial of Family Counseling for Stunting Prevention during the 1000th Day of Childhood. This trial is a Family Education Session that has adapted to new habits, no longer taking the form of facilitated group sessions, but rather one-on-one sessions to avoid crowds.

Still focused on Bogor Regency, Frontiers for Health collaborated with Rotary Club District 3410 Indonesia in this pilot project. After developing the modules and media, the pilot project was implemented through training and practical counseling activities. The training took place at the D’Agape Resort in Bogor, while adhering to health protocols (wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and ensuring a well-ventilated room). After training, nine counselors met with pregnant women and mothers of toddlers to learn about their experiences and provide advice.

From the comments of the mothers visited, it was apparent that the information provided was quite up-to-date, particularly regarding infant/child development. The counselors were also inundated with thanks when they presented communication-information-education tools such as a child’s height measuring ruler (featuring a cute giraffe and equipped with indicators of stunting risk) and a calendar of nutrition and parenting information. The journey is still long, so good luck with your work, family counselors. We hope you stay motivated and stay healthy.
